Emphasis Employee Employer Relationship in the Health Sector

The employer and employee relationships defined

Employee relationship can be replacing industrial relations as the term for defining the relationship between employers and employees. ...’A positive climate of employee relations - with high levels of employee involvement, commitment and engagement - can improve business outcomes as well as contribute to employees' well-being’. (CIPD, 2017)

Employer employee relationship is based on many factors, the legal contract itself a written document the employee is often forced to sign it, if she needs the Job, and such factors as the psychological contract or the unwritten contract based on verbal statements, culture and relationships between the supervisor and subordinate. Collective agreements and TU influences with the employer and employee. Within the Sri Lankan context in public sector health the Doctors Union plays a pivotal role in Sri Lanka by the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA), the hospital administration and the health ministry and processes, systems procedures of work in government hospitals all of which constitutes the Employer /Employee relationship.

Employee /Employer Relationship, Trade Unions in Health Sector of Sri Lanka 
Within the Sri Lankan context of the negotiations, discussions with the Ministry of Health the GMOA and hospital administration fails doctors in Sri Lanka are known for taking various forms of Strick Action such as work to rule, Lightning Strikes and even in extreme cases agitation against the government to win the rights of doctors but this has also in the recent past been used for national policy in health care as in the setup of private medical colleges (Dias, 2017 a). Where the medical professional was against private medical colleges and demanded nationalization of such as institution.
In the local context the power of the medical professionals is reflected in the power and influence the Trade Union has over the various stakeholders. Negotiations usually take in the form of union representation negotiating with other stakeholders to win their rights or resolve their grievances. Therefore, the GMOA is a strong union in Sri Lanka (Dias, 2017, b.).  Some large trade unions in the public sectors are powerful and can bring the government to its knees. Nevertheless the state has passed laws such as the Essential Services Act which don’t allow, Transport, Electricity and Hospitals and other essential services to take Strike Action in times of National Emergency only
